so this is incredibly important, because although this is a fictional character, the lack of reaction to this scene reflects upon our cultural and societal reaction/view toward rape of men. this is why i hate the ‘what if she was your mother, daughter, sister’ approach, because women are not the only ones who are raped and people should care because EVERYONE matters. the patriarchy, gender binary, and gender stereotypes all combine to create this idea that only women are raped and it keeps men from feeling safe and able to speak up. doing so could make them ‘unmanly’ or ‘weak’ and this has to stop. when we talk about consent, sexual assault, sexual harassment, and rape, we need to be talking about everyone.
